Gangasagar at a Glace
The Gangasagar Mela is one of India's most important yearly Hindu pilgrimages, taking place on Sagar Island in West Bengal at the confluence of the Ganges and the Bay of Bengal. The celebration reaches its pinnacle during Makar Sankranti in mid-January, drawing millions of devotees from all around the country. Pilgrims take a ritual bath in the sacred waters, believing it will cleanse them of sins, and pray at the Kapil Muni Temple, which is considered the world's second-largest religious gathering of its kind.
